Panic arose in Anambra state yesterday over the Ebola virus after the body of a citizen was brought in from Liberia.

The West African country came into the spotlight when 40-year-old Patrick Sawyer, a senior Liberian government official died in Nigeria.

The corpse was said to have been brought into the country via cargo and deposited at the morgue of Apex hospital in Nkwelle Ezunaka in the Oyi council Area of the state.

The state government was informed of the development by an informant and the Federal Ministry of Health was promptly called in.

The incident was confirmed by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jehoshaphat Akabuike who said that the hospital has been shut down and sealed off and the workers and in-patients had been quarantined.

The Ebola scourge is currently raging in Liberia and Sierra Leone with over 700 people dead from the disease.
