Ebola Spreads To DR Congo, Kills 2

The Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed two Ebola-related deaths in the country

The Ebola disease which broke out in West Africa has now spread to the Central part of the continent as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) confirms that 2 people in the country have died after being infected.

This was disclosed by the DRC’s Health Minister, Felix Numbi who said that tests carried out on people showed that they had contracted the disease.

The minister added that the strain of Ebola in the DRC seems different from that which has spread in West Africa.

The deaths occurred in the isolated Equateur region of the country where 13 people had earlier died of an unidentified fever.

Numbi said a quarantine zone is being created to keep the disease from spreading further.

This outbreak of the disease is the seventh for the DRC where the virus was first discovered near the Ebola River in 1976.

Over 2000 people have been infected with Ebola this year,1427 of which have died of the disease.

 

First WHO Worker Catches Ebola

The official, who is in Sierra Leone, is the first employee of the organization to contract the disease

A staff of the World Health Organization has been infected with the Ebola virus.

The patient, a man from Senegal, is the first worker of the international body to catch the disease.

The WHO spokesperson has said that it is not yet clear how the man contracted the disease.

Ebola has killed over 1000 people in West Africa this year in an outbreak that the body has described as the worst ever.

Someone Tried To Kill Chris Brown And Suge Knight

The shooting occurred at a pre-awards party being hosted by Brown

A party being held in preparation for the Video Music Awards (VMAs) went sour after shots rang out.

Rap mogul, Marion “Suge” Knight is said to have been hit with six bullets while Chris Brown narrowly escaped getting shot.

The party was hosted by Chris Brown and singer Pia Mia in West Hollywood early this morning.
Reports have it that 25-year-old Brown was the main target but it is Knight who has been left hospitalized.

Two other guests at the party, which was attended by Tyson Beckford and Justin Bieber, are also in a hospital.

One of the guests, Katie Clendon said:
"Literally can't believe what I just witnessed,". "Someone tried to fire shots at Chris Brown at 1oak. Speechless."

Knight is currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Cedars-Sinai hospital.

Reports have it that the president is under the weather and this necessitated his visit to Germany

  According to reports, President Goodluck Jonathan travelled to Germany because he is ill.

Leadership reports that Nigeria’s number one man embarked on the trip to seek medical attention and not for a private visit as claimed.

The president left the country yesterday, August 22, 2014 after receiving the report of the recently concluded National Conference.

Reports also have it that he was supposed to host the members of the Confab to a dinner but the event had to cancelled due to his ill health.

Female Soldier Beats Up Conductor In Lagos

An argument over change ensued between the two and the conductor received a sound beating

A female soldier in Lagos is said to have beaten a conductor to a pulp after a disagreement over her change.

The incident is said to have occurred along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway when the soldier, who tendered N500, asked for her change.

The situation is said to have escalated when the conductor insisted that he had already given the woman all the money that was due to her.

The conductor continued to prove stubborn even after the passengers corroborated the woman’s account and she identified herself as a soldier.

She ordered the driver of the bus to park and proceeded to give the rude conductor the beating of his life.

Some accounts have it that he fell into a coma, but this has not been confirmed.

 

2Face Idibia’s Dad Is Dead

The star’s father lost his battle with cancer today

According to reports, the father of music legend, Innocent “2face” Idibia is dead.

Pa Michael Idibia took his final breath this evening at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja after a battle with prostate cancer.

He was diagnosed of the disease earlier this year and 2face broke the news during the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) cancer charity event which held on June 8, 2014 at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos.

The family hasn't issued an official statement on the death but it has reportedly been confirmed by 2face’s Manager, Efe Omoregie.

2 fresh cases confirmed in Lagos, GEJ summons emergency meeting 

The Federal government has confirmed two more cases of Ebola virus disease in Lagos. This brings to a total of 9 confirmed cases in Nigeria, seven infected with the disease and two dead. 

 

The federal government also said about 139 persons who have had direct or indirect contact with the confirmed cases are currently under surveillance.

Meanwhile President Jonathan has summoned an emergency meeting at the State House Abuja over the virus outbreak in the country.

ISIS to Christians in Iraq: convert to Islam or be killed. Obama authorizes US airstrike to save non-muslims trapped on mountains

In a televised late-night statement from the White House yesterday August 7th, US president Barack Obama said he has authorized US airstrikes in Northern Iraq to defend hundreds of thousands of non-Muslims being hunted down and slaughtered by ISIS, the al-Qaida breakaway Islamic State. This is coming weeks after American military planes carried out airdrops of humanitarian aid to thousands of Iraqi Yazidis surrounded by ISIS militants and desperately in need of food and water. 

ISIS has been ruthlessly hunting and slaughtering members of the ancient Yazidi religion, a faith derived from Zoroastrianism, Christianity and Islam, who ISIS have denounced as devil-worshipers on account of their ancient set of beliefs. Thousands of Iraqi Christians have also fled their homes after the ISIS hoard seized Qaraqush, Iraq's largest Christian town, and several others near Mosul following the withdrawal of Kurdish peshmerga fighters.

Obama's dramatic call to arms came as the chaos engulfing Iraq escalated rapidly last night with a re-energised Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant storming towns in the north, executing villagers and chasing thousands from their homes into the desert.

Up to 50,000 terrified Yazidis - half of them children - have sought refuge from the bloodshed in the surrounding mountains. But there they face another killer: searing desert heat and the constant threat of starvation. 

Many have already died of hunger and thirst as they struggle to survive on just the food they could carry in temperatures exceeding 42C.

Photographs have emerged of Yazidi men carrying the bodies of dozens of young children apparently killed by ISIS militants, who in turn have posted pictures online of themselves posing next to dead Yazidi men.

The dead men's wives were reportedly kept as trophies to be gifted to unmarried jihadist fighters.

Last night Obama said American warplanes had already carried out airdrops of food and water to the Iraqi Yazidis hiding in the mountains. He said  the humanitarian airdrops were made at the request of the Iraqi government. He also said it's time to do more to help the thousands trapped on the mountain.

'Today America is coming to help,' he declared, adding: 'The United States cannot and should not intervene every time there’s a crisis in the world. So let me be clear about why we must act, and act now: when we face a situation like we do on that mountain -- with innocent people facing the prospect of violence on a horrific scale, when we have a mandate to help . . . and when we have the unique capabilities to help avert a massacre, then I believe the United States of America cannot turn a blind eye.'

The Pentagon later revealed that the airdrops of food and water were performed by one C-17 and two C-130 cargo aircraft that together delivered a total of 72 bundles of food and water. They were escorted by two F/A-18 fighters from an undisclosed air base in the region.

The planes delivered 5,300 gallons of fresh drinking water and 8,000 pre-packaged meals and were over the drop area for less than 15 minutes at a low altitude.

The UK also said they are looking at how to assist in Iraq as the world should never just watch and do nothing while a minority group is being slaughtered.

Too early to send experimental Ebola drug to Africa – Obama says

US President, Barack Obama said yesterday August 6th that it's too early to send the unapproved experimental drug, Zmapp serum to Africa where the outbreak of the Ebola virus has recorded more deaths and threatens human existence.

Zmapp serum has proven to be effective in treating Ebola cases as two American doctor infected with the virus in Liberia are currently being treated in the US and are said to have improved after the use of the drug. Continue...

According to AFP, President Obama suggested that affected African countries should focus more on building strong public infrastructures.

"I think we have to let the scientist guide us. And I don’t think all the information is in on whether this drug is helpful".

On whether he would help fast track the approval of the drug should medical experts conclude that the drug is effective, President Obama said;

 "I think it’s premature for me to say that because I don’t have enough information. I don’t have enough data right now to offer an opinion on that.”

While stressing that the deadly virus is not airborne, Obama said 

"the countries affected are the first to admit that what’s happened here is the public health systems have been overwhelmed. They weren’t able to identify and then isolate cases quickly enough. As a consequence, it spread more rapidly than has been typical with the periodic Ebola outbreaks that occurred previously."

He said the US is currently working with their European partners as well as the World Health Organization to provide resources to contain the virus.

I killed my lover because she made me jealous – Suspect 

33 year old Kelechi Williams, the prime suspected in the murder of his 39 year old lover, Mrs Lizzy Njideka Nweze, was yesterday August 6th paraded by men of the Lagos state Police command where he confessed to strangling the late mother of four and Senior staff of Edmark International Limited at her Green Estate residence on July 19th. He said he killed her because he found out she was cheating on him. Below is what he told reporters

"Lizzy was my girlfriend. I knew her three years ago. But we started getting serious in February this year. I came back from Ghana to visit her on July 16, 2014 which was on a Wednesday. The next day we went out and came back late. On Friday, she told me to stay back at home and rest because I was tired. She left the house, saying she was going to the new apartment she was to pack into, assuring me she would be back as usual by 6 p.m. But she did not return by 6pm. Rather, the gate man came with a power generating set, saying madam had gone to drop the workers. When it was 8 p.m. and I did not see her, I started calling her on phone but she did not pick.

I called her up to 30 times without response. She came back by midnight and when I asked why she did not pick my calls, she said the phone was in silent mode. I brought out my phone and called her line only for it to ring. At that point I noticed she was drunk. I got angry and asked if that was the way she would pay me back for leaving everything in Ghana to come and spend time with her. I threatened to quit the relationship. But at that point, her phone rang and I told her to pick it but she insisted that I should pick it and when I did, the caller, who was a male, asked ‘baby are you home?’ Immediately she discovered it was a male’s voice, she snatched the phone from me and asked why I should pick her calls. I reminded her of a similar incident when she came to visit me in Ghana and my phone rang. She pick it and on discovering it was a female, she smashed the phone on the ground, without knowing who the caller was. I reminded her also that she collected my other phones from me and brought them to Nigeria. In anger, I took the phone and smashed it on the ground. Before I knew it, she threw my things outside, saying I should leave her house. I told her to give me the N300,000 she borrowed from me to buy an air conditioner, if she wanted me to leave but she said she had no money with her and gave me her ATM card which she said had just N140,000. At a point, she slapped me and we started fighting. She held on to my manhood and started stretching it. That was when I held the wrapper that was around her neck and used it to strangle her, thereby forcing her to let go  my manhood. She fell down and became motionless. Immediately, I took her three phones, ATM card and went outside to meet the gate man to see me off to any ATM machine, where I withdrew N100,000. I dropped the gateman at home, and told him I was going to pump the tyre. At that point, I knew I was in trouble. I did not go back to her house for fear of being arrested. I drove straight to Mile 2, from where I picked a driver who drove me down to Ghana.

I spent some days in Ghana before I decided to leave for Cote d’Ivoire,where unfortunately I was arrested.

I never wanted to kill her. I have never fought in my life, let alone kill somebody. I did not also steal her jewellery and N8 million as claimed by the Police. The only money I withdrew was N100,000 and her phone.” he said

The Lagos state Police Commissioner, Umar Tanko, while briefing newsmen said after the suspect killed the woman, he took the SUV he stole from her to his church in Ghana where he had a thanksgiving for his new car and also made a huge donation to the church to thank God.

The police boss said on the day of the murder, the suspect locked the door from outside, apparently to make it look as if they had gone out. He further disclosed that a new International Passport which bore the suspect’s name and the surname of his deceased’s lover, was found on him, suggesting that the murder was planned.

On how her corpse was discovered, the security man to the late Lizzy Nwezue, John Tungwim, said he suspected a foul play when Kelechi ran out from the apartment that night.

He said “he told me he was going to the club with madam but that she asked him to go and withdraw money with her ATM card first. I went with him because I know madam’s pin code. But we came back, he told me to go inside that madam said she was tired and could not go. So, he drove out alone. I never suspected anything until the next day when I did not see madam. I called one of the children’s attention to it. Out of curiosity, I climbed a ladder only to discover that madam was on the floor foaming in her mouth. I contacted her brother who called in the police.” he said

 In Liberia where the deadly disease is really spreading, relatives of Ebola victims have started dumping infected bodies of their loved ones in the streets of Monrovia for fear of catching the deadly disease, defying government order to leave the relatives at home.









Liberia's Information Minister, Lewis Brown, told Reuters that this act is putting more people at risk

"They are removing the bodies from their homes and are putting them out in the street. They're exposing themselves to the risk of being contaminated. We're asking people to please leave the bodies in their homes and we'll pick them up.'

Usually when a relative is found to be infected with the Ebola virus, government quarantines the rest of the family. Girl Burnt To Death By iPhone She Was Charging

The teenage girl was found dead in bed by her sister who noticed a burning smell

A girl in China has been found burnt to death in her bed after being electrocuted by her iPhone.

18-year-old Wu Weyuan was charging her phone with what has been described as a knock-off charger.

She was found black and charred by her sister who came back from work and smelled something burning.

She went into her sister's room and found her lifeless and the screen of the iPhone 4S she had been charging was smashed.

An autopsy revealed electrocution marks on the neck, hands and left foot of the deceased and police decided that her death was caused by an electrical "leakage" from the phone which caused electrocution.

Male Robbers Attack A Store And Steal Only Human Hair

The men were said to have thrown away the cheap weaves and taken only the pricey ones in their raid

A gang of robbers in Houston attacked a store but instead of going for the cash register, they stole only hair extensions aka human hair.

The 8 men are said to have crashed a truck into the "Beauty Sensations" store and stolen the hair, some costing about $400 each.

The owner's son, Kevin Kim said:
"Total of eight guys came in, in and out, in and out, took everything"

While the store's manager, Deneen Jacobs, said:
"It's a hot commodity," "I mean everybody's buying hair, everybody wants hair. And it's expensive."

Ms. Jacobs believes that the thieves must have been in the store before because they knew exactly what they wanted.

The police are investigating the case and hope to identify the suspects through the surveillance video

Davido finally clears the air on the tension between him and Wizkid

its no news that Davido and Wizkid have been at loggerheads in the last few weeks (some would argue that this has gone on for even much longer).

Things went sour about 2 weeks ago following Wizkid's New York concert which saw Akon and Wale join him on stage. An excited Wizkid took to Instagram to share the news adding that "boys talk while men work". This sparked off a series of angry exchanges between him and Davido where they all but exchanged blows on social media.

Davido who is currently in the United States for the US-Africa summit finally spoke on the very public beef with Sahara TV stating that it was no beef but rather a case of bad shade.

"It's not beef at all..but I'm the type of person if I feel something..to me everything you do, you don't hit your brother down. This is the first time I'm saying this but the only reason I was upset was because of the NY concert. I was even going to tweet like you know 'make sure everybody turn up for my brother Wizkid's concert' and he threw a shade like that. I'm not going to take that...that's why I went and said what I said. But it's all cool, at the end of the day, we got to keep it on the music.

Austrian Woman Fined For Roaming Naked

Even in non-prudish Austria, nudity in public places is NOT allowed!

A woman in Austria has been fined up to 1,000 Euros ($1,340) for constantly walking on the streets with nothing but a pair of white tennis shoes.

According to Police spokesman Johann Baumschlager, the young woman was stopped by police on Tuesday after cycling past officers manning a radar trap on a highway in northeastern Austria.

Baumschlager said on Wednesday the woman was again identified and told to go home and get dressed. She was also informed she had been charged with disturbing public decency — a misdemeanor that carries a maximum 1,000-euro fine.

She had previously been sighted in the buff while shopping in a supermarket and at a gas station, filling up her car - and still Naked! (What if there was a fire?)

Unfortunately, the woman's name wasn't mentioned going by the Austrian privacy laws.

Amnesty International Releases Graphic Video of 'Nigerian Military' Butchering Citizens

The human rights watchdog has again accused the Nigerian troops of extra-judicial killings

Amnesty International has released a gruesome video to buttress its allegations that the Nigerian military has been violating human rights.

The video shows men believed to be Nigerian military officers and some alleged to be members of the Civilian Joint Task Force butchering suspected members of Boko Haram.

One after one, the suspects have their throats slit and they are then thrown into a mass grave by their killers.

Amnesty International had previously accused the Nigerian military of killing innocent citizens and executing suspects summarily as part of its war against terror.

Photographer Captures ‘Hand Of God’ In The Sky

The photographer says he is hoping to travel the world to capture more natural wonders but it will take something special to beat this photo

A 38-year-old photographer, David Christie, took a stunning image of a fist-like wind funnel as it forced its way through the dark clouds above his home, like it was stretching from the heavens towards the earth.

Christie was amazed at the way the cloud formed in the sky while he was standing outside his home with his wife, Jodie.

 He said: "I love weather photography and I've taken a few pictures of small wind funnels in the past.
"But this was something else. It looked as through there was a huge hand piercing through the clouds - it was phenomenal.

"It really did seem like the hand of God.

"My wife and I are both photographers and we've never seen anything like this."

Christie is hoping to travel the world to capture more natural wonders but it will take something special to beat this photo.

He said: "I've always wanted to do storm chasing in the US. Some of the things you see over there are incredible but this was a very surreal experience.

Woman Cuts Off Love Rival's Breasts With Scissors

The victim was tied up and stripped naked by her attacker and then her breasts were cut

A Chinese woman has undergone an unfortunate double mastectomy after a suspected love rival chopped off her breasts with a pair of scissors.

27-year-old Xiao Lin was attacked in her home in the South-Eastern Guangdong province while she was watching TV.

Her assailant, identified as Meng Tsao, then stripped her naked, tied her up and cut off both her breasts.

Meng told police after she was arrested that the victim had stolen her husband, Meng Pan, but the latter denied the reports saying that he had admitted to having a crush on the victim but she refused his advances.

However, the attacker's husband filed for a divorce after revealing his crush and thus she blamed the victim.

Xiao Lin was rushed to the hospital after telling her husband, Xiao Luo, of the attack but doctors have said that they can't reattach the breasts.

The man was captured by Jihadists and forced to deny his faith

A Christian man in Syria had his head chopped off by Islamic militants after he was forced to deny his faith and hail Mohammed as "the messenger of God".

The man’s brutal murder was filmed and uploaded on YouTube to be broadcasted as a warning to "everyone like him".

Surrounded by armed Islamists, the man is heard reciting as instructed: "There is no God but God and I testify that Mohammed is the messenger of God."

An Islamist, possibly the group’s leader is heard instructing the group: "No one will shoot him now, do you understand? He will not be killed by shooting because it is merciful for him."

"He will be beheaded because he is Kaffir, non-Muslim, sided [with] the government and was not praying at all. Everyone like him will have the same end, beheading."

Another militant armed with a machete grabs the defenceless man by the head and starts to cut his head from his body as the group cries "Allahu Akbar…there is no God but God."
