Senior police officer brutalizes man for scratching his jeep

A police officer has been accused of brutalizing a citizen, causing him brain damage.

A victim of police brutality, Akhanolu Smart, is battling for his life after a senior police officer attached to the Ire-Akari Estate Police Station at Isolo, Lagos State, DSP Adeola Timothy Falowo, assaulted him for daring to 'scratch a policeman's jeep' while riding in a 'common tricycle' commonly called Keke Napep.

The victim who is reported to have had his brain affected as a result of the attack by the officer, is now confined to a hospital bed while his relatives are running helter-skelter to raise funds for a surgery on his damaged brain.

According to PM News, the victim's life is in danger and his fate uncertain as doctors confirmed that the attack affected his brain which caused total break down of his nervous system, and might not be able to work properly again after it was discovered that he had internal bleeding which led to partial stroke that has paralyzed him.

According to the newspaper:

"Smart was returning home from work via the Cele Express to Egbe-Ikotun. He boarded tricycle (Keke Napep) but on getting to Jakande Estate, he decided to disembark from the Keke because of a traffic jam.

The police officer, Falowo came down from Jeep and held him, mistaking him for Keke rider. He accused him of scratching his Pathfinder Jeep but Smart’s attempt to explain that he was a passenger not the rider fell on deaf ears.

And before Smart could explain further, he began to beat him before he then hit his head with an unknown object. Some unknown persons also joined him in battering is victim.

After he was battered, Falowo bundled Smart into the boot of his jeep and took to Ejigbo Police Division where he was detained and made to pay N65,000 before he was released.

He was eventually released the next day after they discovered that he was inflicted with serious injuries and his health deteriorating.

He said he contacted his relation who took him to different hospitals where he was rejected because his case had gone worse. He was later taken to a specialist at Benin in Edo State.

He said it was at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH that it was discovered that he had internal bleeding which caused total break down of his nervous system. He said he has since spent over N600,000 and he is yet to recover."

 

Son murders father for being too old

A young son has murdered his father because the man was tool old.

A man believed to be mentally challenged, has thrown the sleepy community of Uduku Ettam Okpitumo, in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State, into total confusion as he allegedly murdered his aged father because he considered the man to be too old to continue living.

According to eye witnesses, the young man simply identified as John, is said to have killed his father, Ikor Itumo, then proceeded to behead him and took the lifeless body of his late father to Edukwu Unwu-essa playground in the area, as a mark of heroism for the entire community to see.

Sources report after news of John’s dastardly act went round the community, a search party led by youths in the area was immediately conducted leading to the discovery of the cutlass the suspect used.

The suspect was later apprehended by the youths and handed over to the police for interrogation into the circumstances that led to the death of the deceased.

Meanwhile the suspect who apparently doesn’t see the crime in what he did, reportedly said:
"
My father had become older than my late grandfather, therefore he deserved to be killed. He was no more useful to the society because of his old age."

Cases of rape keeps rearing its head every other day. When will it stop?

For his inability to put a hold to his sexual libido, a 20-year-old man, Godswill David, a native of Akwa Ibom State, has found himself in hot water after he was arrested for raping a 10-year-old primary 3 pupil in the Ikota Housing Estate, Lagos State.

The victim, according to Punch Newspaper, lived with her parents in the same house with David, which is owned by the girl's father, and he took advantage of being close to the family to perpetrate the crime.

It was gathered that David had sent the victim to fetch him a sachet of detergent and while she was searching for the detergent, the suspect followed her into the room and forcibly undressed and raped her.

While the act was on, the victim screamed for help, and the suspect’s stepmother rushed into the room and allegedly met David on top of the little girl, though she turned and locked the door without raising an alarm.

David allegedly threatened the victim that she would die if she told anyone what transpired between them.

Not satisfied with the rape, David tried to assault the girl again the next day when he found her sleeping ans she was said to have ran out and reported her ordeal to an aunt, who in turn narrated the incident to her parents.

The matter was reported at the police station, leading to David’s arrest. A police source reported that the girl was taken to a hospital where she went through some medical tests and the result showed that the hymen was no longer intact.

The matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, from where the suspect was arraigned on one count of unlawful defilement.

He was arraigned on before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court.

 

10-year-old boy thrown into river over witchcraft allegation

A 10-year-old boy, Usen Okon, has been branded a wizard and thrown into a river by his family members.

While the government of Akwa Ibom State is battling tooth and nail to nip the branding of children as witches in the bud, another of such cases has reared its ugly head when a 10-year-old boy, Usen Okon, was reportedly thrown into a river in Ikot Abasi local government area of the state, over witchcraft accusation.

Though the poor boy survived the ordeal, the pathetic thing is that the dastardly act was carried out by his family members who decided to kill the boy for bringing untold calamities into the family.

According to reports, a non-government organisation, the Humanist Association for Peace and Social Tolerance Advancement and its partner, Child’s Rights and Rehabilitation Network, has intervened and has taken the child into its custody and is taking care of him.

The Senior Project Manager of the organisation, Mr. Ayobami Ojedokun, narrates that Usen was under the care of his paternal aunt, identified simply as Ekaeyen, at Etebi community in the Esit Eket local government area of the state after the death of his parents.

"A few days ago, the boy was aroused from sleep by the aunt who took him to her husband and asked him to confess to being a wizard."

He added that when Okon denied the witchcraft accusation, his aunt threatened to throw him into a river.

And true to her words, the aunt and his uncle carried out the threat on November 16, 2014, tied the poor boy up and took him to the Imo River that runs across the community and threw him into the water with the hope that he would drown.

"She actually threw Okon into Imo River thinking that the boy would drown. The boy came out of the water alive and went to their home, only to be told that his aunt had relocated."

The Project Director of the NGO, Mr. Adeyemi Johnson, stated that his organisation has reunited 16 children to their families from January to November, and referred two children to Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Women Affairs, while also rescuing 17 children from January till date, with 15 children in its care at the centre.

Nigerian man sentenced to death for drug smuggling in Malaysia

After being found guilty of drug smuggling in 2012, Abuchi Ngwoke has been sentenced to death by a Malaysian High Court.

A 35-year old Nigerian man, Abuchi Ngwoke, has been sentenced to death for drug trafficking by a Malaysian Hight Court.

Abuchi Ngwoke was accosted at a Malaysian airport and arrested afterwards after being found with 251.66 grams of Mathapethamine. He swallowed gemstones in Nigeria before boarding a flight to the Southeast Asian country.

After being found guilty of drug trafficking, a Malaysian High Court judge said Abuchi Ngwoke’s attempt to smuggle drugs into the country by swallowing them was “absurd”.

Abuchi Ngwoke was today, Tuesday November 25, sentenced to death. A date has not been set for his execution.

US doctor suspended for having sex with patients

The doctor has been accused of abandoning a pregnant patient in labour to have sex with another patient. 

A United States gynaecologist, Dr. Christopher Driskill, is facing the sack after he allegedly left a woman in labour unattended to while having sex with another patient in New Mexico.

The 42-year-old Christopher Driskill who has already been suspended, has been accused of being drunk at work and sleeping with numerous patients and colleagues and now the New Mexico Medical Board is considering revoking his license. 

The board additionally found him to be drinking during work hours and when he was on call. 

It has also been discovered that Driskill has a “personal cache” of alcohol in his office at the Lea Regional Medical Center.

A suspension notice reads that he admitted several pregnant patients in labour to the Lea Regional Medical Center, but was not present for their deliveries as he was busy having “sexual relations with another patient,” the Albuquerque Journal reports.

Driskill faces 11 charges of misconduct just five months before he was supposed to become the president of the New Mexico Medical Society.

 

Man leads gang to rob sibling of N2.3m

Babayo Ali has shown that the best way to show love to a brother is to lead a robbery gang to attack the brother.

A 24-year-old man, Babayo Ali, is now in police custody for leading a gang of robbers to rob his elder brother of the sum of N2.3 million. Ali had conspired with three others, Nnamdi Ugwuona, Felix Igbeona and Babatunde Adebayo, to  the house of his blood brother, Ahmed Ali, and dispossessed him of the sum and other valuables. The incident occurred in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

According to the state Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP Celetina Kalu, the suspects robbed the victim opposite the defunct Textile Mill in Asaba before escaping to their hideout.

She said:

Based on the incident, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspects.

"The architect of the crime and the insider that provided the information on the stolen money who is the victim's blood brother, is now in custody.”

Kalu added that the suspects had confessed to the crime and fingered one Dumebi Onwuegbuzia, who allegedly provided the locally made cut-to-size gun used during the operation.

"However, the said Dumebi, who was paid N30,000 after the robbery, has been on our wanted list and was arrested by operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad in Asaba."

The PPRO said that further investigations later revealed that Dumebi runs a Vikings confraternity and has initiated many boys into the dreaded cult group within Asaba metropolis.
